ITV’s Nations and Regions Production Fund (NRPF) is an exciting and innovative network initiative with a passionately held simple aim - to expand ITV’s commissioning base outside of London. The NRPF’s aim is to help the wide rainbow of talent outside of London shine as bright as it can.
The Regional Production Fund was launched in June 2005 as a new initiative to make £9 million over three years available to "new to network" producers and to the off-screen training, development and promotion of in-house and freelance talent in the regions. The fund was established following Ofcom’s Public Service Broadcasting Review and ITV hoped that it would tap into the UK’s wealth of talent by dispersing commissioning more widely across the UK, extending ITV’s independent commissioning base, promoting and unlocking in-house talent from the regions and nurturing ITV’s screenwriters of tomorrow.
The Fund has now been renamed to reflect ITV’s commitment to attracting more commissions from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales in addition to those from the English Regions.
As well as undertaking a series of extensive roadshows across the UK with well over 500 producers attending, the NRPF has also invested in new talent and development initiatives, including:
- The NRPF Executive Producer Scheme
- The NRPF Independent Development Fund
- TAPS Nations and Regions Screenwriters Initiative
- ITV Network Secondments
The fund is administered by Emma Barker (Editor, NRPF) and Diane Howie (Commissioning Editor - Factual).
